Here’s How Queensland’s Next-Gen Tech Talent Is Taking Off
Imagine a world where driverless vehicles glide through smart cities, mining bots dig deep without human hands, and autonomous drones deliver life-saving supplies to remote communities. That future isn’t decades away—it’s being built today in Queensland, thanks to the Queensland Future Skills Partnership sponsored by BMA, TAFE QLD and CQU University.
Between 15 May and 20 June 2025, STEM Punks hit the road—visiting Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Townsville and Mackay—to spark curiosity in 200+ students.
Hands-On Highlights
- 11 power-packed sessions where students coded and raced autonomous rovers
- Students solved real-world challenges using autonomous rovers and machine learning tools

Why It Matters
According to our post-session survey (131 responses):
- 80% agreed the experience has changed the way they think about Autonomous Technologies
- 88% agreed that the activity was a good way to learn about Autonomous Technologies
- 72% agreed that the event increased their understanding of Autonomous Technologies pathways for further study at TAFE
Additionally:
- 71% of students stated they were already interested or more interested in Autonomous Technologies after the event
- 88% of students noted the event was the first time they had heard about the TAFE Course Gateway micro-credentials in Autonomous Technology
